Making a radio control vehicle work over satellite

A customer had a number of vehicles that are radio controlled, more or less line-of-sight.  I was a major part of a team that figured out how to relay C&C and video over a satellite link, despite the manufacturer's insistence the latency would be too bad... see more

Exploring seagrass with a prototype imaging rig

A side project to create a portable stereo aquaculture vision rig turned into a cross-functional prototyping effort to self-power and float a camera and a sidescan sonar system over reefs and sandy bottoms in Indonesia and Fiji with scientists from the Australian government and an Indonesian university.  Details and amazing photos are in this MIT Technology Review feature on the project.
